Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun a crucial training session for security personnel. This move is part of INEC’s preparations to ensure a smooth and secure electoral process.
The training, which is scheduled to last for three days, aims to equip security personnel with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle their roles effectively during the election. This includes managing security at polling stations, maintaining order, and responding to any potential security threats.
The training is timely, given that the election is just a month away. INEC is working diligently to address all aspects that could impact the election’s integrity, including security, communication, and voter engagement. Recently, INEC also conducted a workshop on effective communication for its senior staff, facilitated by the International Press Centre (IPC) and supported by the European Union (EU) and DAI.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, has emphasized the importance of such training in ensuring the success of the upcoming election. Effective communication and robust security measures are seen as key to promoting transparency, building trust, and fostering a more inclusive election environment.
