Osinbajo dey talk say plenty of our schools dey broken and underfunded. E tell us say leadership wey fine dey start from primary school level. That discipline wey dem learn like waking up 5:30 AM and lights out na wetin go build fine leaders for the future. Na school go fit form habits wey fit last to adulthood, no be make dem dey improvise later
He reason say by the time pikin reach 18, their ethical instincts don already form well well. If dem no get good education for young age, na wetin we dey see for this our leadership wahala today. Leadership no be only for public office; e start from school! Abeg, make we no forget how founders of institutions like Igbobi College dey use endowment to shape the future.
Osinbajo dey yarn about endowment as beta way to support educational institutions. E talk say many top schools dey run well because of large endowments wey them get. Na strong pool wey dey support operation for years. Dem no just dey give money; dem dey support values and standards wey dey last. So, if we want long-lasting effect, we fit use endowment well!
E even remind us say Igbobi College, wey start since 1932, na endowment naim help am stand strong for all these years. E dey back this school wey dey charge fees, but the moral and civic values wey them instill in students no go fit dey run without money wey people don donate before.
Osinbajo talk say hin own career for public service na because of the values wey e learn for school. E dey serve for many governments, but hin no fit dey sycophantic. Na that respect wey dem learn for school go help shape the country leaders. Each investment wey we make for school na investment for Nigeria future.
Na im the Igbobi College Old Boys’ Association (ICOBA) come launch ₦10 billion Endowment Fund to revive the school. Chief Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, the 12th President of ICOBA, talk say dis fund go help build new hostels, upgrade laboratories and introduce advanced learning technology.
E assure everybody say dem go manage the fund well, no one wan make dem use money anyhow. “Make we not dey use our funds anyhow,” he talk, dey encourage alumni to contribute. E even use Igbo proverb, “Good soup na money kill am,” because quality dey need serious investment!
As Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun pledge government support, e tell everybody say Igbobi dey produce disciplined citizens wey go help government save money later. In short, education no dey just affect individual; e dey affect the whole country!
