US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who dey represent the United States at the ASEAN meeting in Laos, condemn the actions of the Myanmar military junta. He talk about the deepening crisis in Myanmar and how the military take over power in 2021 after dem claim say there be electoral fraud.
Since den, the military junta don arrest and kill thousands of people, and dem ban political activities. Blinken say the situation in Myanmar very serious and dem need to find way to resolve am peacefully.
The issue of Myanmar also come up during the ASEAN meeting where the military junta send representative for the first time in over three years. But it no clear if there be any direct interaction between the junta representative and Blinken.
The US and other countries dey call for genuine democratic reforms in Myanmar and an end to the military rule. Dem say any election wey the junta organize no go be free and fair.
