Abeg, make I gist you about wetin dey happen for Jesus side when e step enter baptism water. You sabi say water dey important like jollof rice for Naija? E get plenty meaning and connection to our life!

From wetin I gather, water be life o! Na 60% of our body dey filled with am, and 70% of the earth be water. E no just dey quench thirst, but e dey connect us back to God. As we dey talk Bible, plenty stories wey get to do with water dey there, like the creation story, Noah wey carry him family enter ark, and when Israelites cross Red Sea. But make we focus on that baptism matter wey Jesus do!

For Matthew 3:13-17, we see as John the Baptist dey do him own kasala, when Jesus come tell am say, “Baba, abeg, I need to enter the water.” John no gree approach initially, him dey wonder why Jesus, the sinless one, wan enter baptism. But come to think of am, this na big statement from God to show say Him dey interested for our life, no be say God dey far away from us!

When Jesus enter that water, e no just dey do am for show. Na so Him dey show say oo, He dey ready to stand with wey dey suffer, wey don dey oppressed, and Him from the water show us wetin justice and love mean. That na why Him rise up and heavens open, Spirit come dey descend like dove. God call am Beloved, before e even do any miracle; wetin that one mean for our own life!

Everyday, we dey hustle to prove ourself, but e good to know say before anything, God don already call us beloved. So, when Jesus come out from Jordan, na that moment e begin Him work wey go change the world. Na God love bring we together, gree us to act for justice, and no be only for us to sit down dey yak.

As we dey look the palava wey dey happen for this world, like climate crisis, racism, and plenty other wahala, we for remember say Jesus baptism na call for us to stand for those wey feel abandoned, just like Jesus do. When Jesus no run from water, we too no suppose run from the work wey dey before us. We fit join the healing and the justice wey dey needed reach those wey need am!

So, make we carry this baptism ethos come our neighbourhood; from when our people dey struggle for food do, we fit bring love, support, and stand together with dem. Because at the end, those waters wey touch Jesus dey transform us too. Na so we go dey shine light, dey speak truth, and dey live out God’s calling. Wahala no dey finish, but God don ready put we for front say, ‘You fit make change!’
