ASUU Agreement Don Land, Na Turn For Nigerian Universities!

Wetin dey happen, my people? Gist don land as Federal Government and ASUU don finally sign agreement wey don dey delay for 16 years! This one na big win for all the university lecturers and na students too go enjoy am because dem go fit learn beta now.

Minister for Education, Tunji Alausa, carry the good news come Abuja, no be small. E talk say this agreement na turning point for Nigeria’s tertiary education. Na President Bola Tinubu dey lead this charge, but we go see if dem go follow through this time.

Wetin this agreement dey carry? E get 40 percent salary increase for all the university academic staff dem! Make una hear am well, my people: dem go start receive beta money from January 1, 2026. So, if you be lecturer, make you ready to chop better money as dem don define how your salary go be.

Inside the new salary structure, dem don include something wey dem dey call Consolidated University Academic Staff Salary (CONUASS) and Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA). This CATA go cover things like journal publications and internet access. This one go really help lecturers enhance their work and quality of teaching! No more wahala for those who wan attend conferences or publish their research.

Alausa say the agreement get plenty key highlights wey go boost staff morale and even stop brain drain wey don dey happen since forever. E don create clear pathways for promotions and even increase professors’ annual allowance to N1.74 million. This one na big money o!

Look, the last time dem negotiate, na wah o! Omo, ASUU don strike for over 1,200 days. But this time, e be like say dem serious. E get as dem don restructure the Earned Academic Allowances too, wey go ensure say lecturers dey get all the incentives wey dem need to perform better.

But make we no deceive ourselves, because dem still get issues wey be serious matter – like how government dey interfere with university autonomy. E no go easy if dem no fix am, because na only strong university autonomy fit provide the kind education wey Nigerian students deserve.

ASUU also don dey talk say, this agreement no be just play play. Dem don highlight say e go address funding issues and even propose National Research Council Bill wey go dey allocate funds for research. At least, dem fit try upgrade our educational system.

For those of una wey dey think wetin this thing mean for una future, listen: if dem fit implement everything wey dem talk for this agreement, then Nigeria universities fit begin shine like before! We fit solve many wahalas like strike and brain drain wey dey disturb our academic calendar before!

Finally, e good make we keep our fingers crossed. Let’s pray say government go fulfill their side of the bargain this time. If we fit hold dem accountable, den change fit really happen for our educational system!
