You sabi say NYSC suppose be the big kabash for unifying our country, but now e don turn to person wey dey fear to open im letter. E fit even be like sey na lottery of where you go serve – no be every state you go wan go, especially if dem call areas wey dey filled with bandits and kidnappers.
Na who no go fear? Imagine sey you don struggle finish for school, na you go dey pray make your posting no carry you go that kind place wey safety na mirage. For naija youth wey get future for hand, this na survival skill training dem for service year instead of career development.
When I talk say dem dey learn security measures, no be joke. Dem dey advise the youth to no travel at night, no wear fine fine things wey go attract bad people, and never waka alone. E no good at all o! And make I clear you, NYSC wey suppose be about serving and creating bond, don become about securing yourself from not getting kidnapped. Wetin happen to the dreams?
Parents, e get so many days wey dem dey use the whole year dey pray for their children wey dey serve. Every time bad news drop, their heart dey shake like say dem dey dance Shaku Shaku. Na so we see say NYSC dey become a prism wey dey show how e fit fail to protect the citizens wey dem suppose shelter. This no bi wetin we sign up for o!
How dem go hook young people to serve without setting their life on the line? Ransom wey families dey pay just to see their children come back safe na clear sign say the system don fail. This na the same NYSC wey before dey inspire hope for national unity, now na unifying theme be survival and connection to ‘safe’ states.
The man wey be the Director General, Brig. Gen. OO Nafiu, don talk say dem dey ready for reform, but true talk, we need action wey go show say life get value pass tradition. To dey talk about changes na one thing, but if nobody dey carry those changes come na still same same wahala go dey.
Dem dey talk say NYSC get potential to become serious catalyst for national development, wetin mean say the scheme fit help solve current challenges and push for better solutions. But after all dis talk, wetin we go see? Abeg make dem restore back the glory of NYSC! E go make sense if prospective corp members fit serve without making prayer their main vocation for one year.
Naija, we fit do better! We need changes wey go ensure say our youth go fit serve and fit go back to their families without spending all year for prayer worry and survival mode. If we fit push for dis kind reforms, na only then we fit regain di essence of NYSC wey don dey look like ghost of past.
