Na good news for Monday as 708 Nigerians wey dey stranded for Niger Republic don finally return back to Nigeria. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) coordinate the whole matter as dem bring the people come back home through Aminu Kano International Airport.
According to NEMA spokesperson Nura Abdullahi, the people wey return na 708 in number and dem dey do verification for them right now. Abdullahi talk say all the relevant stakeholders dey on ground to make sure everything go smooth. Dem don already give the returnees immediate humanitarian support like food and temporary shelter.
The breakdown of where the people come from show say Kano State get 303 people, Jigawa get 208, Katsina get 67, Kaduna get 39, Borno get 35, Yobe get 19, Zamfara get 16, Benue get 11, and small number from Kogi and Niger states. Abdullahi add say medical teams including Red Cross officials dey on ground to attend to people with health challenges, and if the case serious, dem go refer am to proper hospital.
Kano Field Coordinator of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Luba Liman, describe the exercise as “whole-of-government response.” She explain say the evacuation na collaborative effort wey involve Nigerian Embassy for Niamey and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Liman talk say the repatriation na voluntary because many of the migrants no get money to return home by themselves. “We don make arrangement for their shelter, feeding and other support services, including provision of dignity kits for women. After the profiling exercise, dem go hand them over to relevant authorities for further reintegration,” she talk.
The returnees travel from Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic, come Kano inside over 10 buses. The Federal Government coordinate the whole evacuation exercise to help Nigerians wey dey suffer for foreign land. This kind operation show say government dey try to protect citizens no matter where dem dey.
For now, the returnees dey undergo documentation and profiling at the airport before dem go transport them to their respective states. The process dey important to make sure dem identify everybody properly and give them the necessary support wey dem need to settle back for Nigeria.
