Abeg my people, wetin dey happen for wetin dem dey call Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project? E be like say some pipo dey vex as no railway track dey show for some part of di construction. Wetin we go talk? Federal Government don clear am say dem go still add di railway part, but na land wahala wey dey cause am.
Dis project na one of di big infrastructure hustle wey government dey run to link Lagos and Calabar with better road wey dey go boost trade and tourism. E don start since 2024, and na N4bn per kilometer dem dey talk about untuk to finish am. But as dem start dey share videos, pipo don dey waka up and down, dey ask wetin happen to di railway line wey dem promise.
Transport Minister David Umahi don yarn say dem plan to put railway line for di middle of di road, but na as dem dey construct am, some areas get no space for rail due to di heavy buildings for Lekki corridor.
Federal Controller of Works for Lagos, Olufemi Dare, don come clear matter for us. According to am, from di Chainage Zero wey be wetin start for Eko Atlantic to Chainage Nine around Jakande area, dem no fit put railway line because land no dey. Na only di road dem fit manage there, wetin no give them option for railway.
Dare talk say as you dey move from Chainage Nine go front, dem go put railway tracks. Na there dem don plan to create 20-metre space wey go allow di train to dey pass, no wahala. But for di first 9km, e no go dey! E be like say na wahala wey we go dey face as construction dey go on.
The highway go pass through multiple states along di Atlantic coastline, linking us from di corner of Lagos reach Cross River State. E fit make plenty sense for economy, but people dey concern about di cost and di effect of di project on di environment.
Dem don say dis Coastal Highway go get ten lanes, plus di railway line for di middle, and dem don already open Section One, Phase One wey be 47.47 kilometers while dem dey secure more funding to move di project forward. Wetin we go advise? Make we dey watch as things dey unfold!
