Naija-American Couple Share Touching Story: No Family Member Attend Dem Wedding

One Nigerian-American couple, Blessing and Jake, don share their extraordinary journey to matrimony, and it’s a story that go touch many hearts. In an interview on Femi Lazarus’s YouTube program, Stories, on Sunday, dem talk about how dem get married in Nigeria without any family member present.

Blessing, who be Nigerian, and Jake, who be American, face plenty obstacles and family resistance before dem finally tie the knot. Blessing grow up in a very strict and harsh environment, living with her stepmother who no dey show her love. She describe her childhood as a time of fear and suppression, and even share one traumatic incident where her stepmother beat her severely when she be just five years old.

Jake, who was a missionary at the time, meet Blessing through a Christian discipleship program. Despite never being attracted to Black women before, he feel a strong conviction the first time he see Blessing on Instagram. Dem start long-distance communication over five months, discussing their faith and life experiences.

When dem announce their wedding plans, Blessing’s family express doubts and fears about Jake’s intentions. Some even spread rumours that Jake be an organ harvester. Blessing’s brother warn her not to let Jake visit Nigeria, fearing he would be kidnapped. The opposition from different sides affect Blessing’s health, making her fall sick frequently.

Due to the challenges, especially with traditional Nigerian customs, the couple decide against a traditional ceremony. Instead, dem opt for a small church wedding attended by fewer than 20 guests, without any reception. Jake pay the bride price to Blessing’s mother rather than her estranged father, whom Blessing had not spoken to in over a decade.

Despite all the challenges, both Blessing and Jake believe their union is part of a greater purpose. Blessing say, “God told me that He was going to connect two countries through me. This marriage is not just about us; it is a purpose.” Jake also share similar sentiments, recounting how he had divine visions and confirmation about their relationship.
