AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Matchday 3 Heats Up Across Africa

As the road to the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025, continues, Matchday 3 of the qualifiers is set to deliver some thrilling encounters across the continent. From Thursday, October 10, to Saturday, October 12, 2024, 48 national teams will be in action, each vying for a spot in Africa’s premier football tournament.

The schedule for Matchday 3 is packed with exciting matches. On Thursday, key fixtures include Namibia vs Zimbabwe, Cape Verde vs Botswana, DR Congo vs Tanzania, and Ghana vs Sudan. These matches will kick off at various times, with the earliest starting at 13:00 GMT and the latest at 19:00 GMT.

Nigeria, one of the favorites, will face Libya in a crucial double-header. With Victor Osimhen out injured, the spotlight will be on Victor Boniface to prove his worth on the international stage. Nigeria’s interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, is confident in his team’s ability to secure all six points from these matches, which would significantly boost their chances of early qualification.

Other notable matches include Burkina Faso vs Burundi, Madagascar vs Gambia, and Cameroon vs Kenya. Teams like Tunisia, who have an impressive record of winning their last 16 AFCON qualifiers on home soil, will also be in action. Comoros, unbeaten in their last four qualifiers, will face Tunisia in what promises to be a tightly contested match.

The stakes are high, with the top two finishers in each of the eleven groups (excluding tournament hosts Morocco) earning qualification to the 2025 AFCON. The competition is fierce, and each match will be crucial in determining which teams will make it to the finals in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
