Kano Deputy Gov Gwarzo don resign as Kwankwaso dey plan move to ADC

Kano State political scene dey hot as Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo officially don resign from im position. The resignation wey take effect immediately na after days of speculation and political wahala for the state.

Gwarzo submit im resignation letter to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday night, citing Section 306 (2) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution. For the letter, Gwarzo say im decision na voluntary one after “careful consultations and deep reflection.” E talk say e take the step to protect the peace and stability of Kano State.

The former deputy governor insist say im resignation no mean say e don accept any wrongdoing. “This resignation is made voluntarily and in good faith. It should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing, but rather as a conscious decision in the interest of institutional integrity,” Gwarzo write for im letter.

Kwankwasiyya Movement spokesperson, Dr Habibu Mohammed, confirm the resignation and describe am as “difficult” but necessary for the interest of good governance. E talk say recent circumstances don limit how the deputy governor office fit work well, so resignation become important to allow the office function better.

Meanwhile, political tension dey high for Kano as National Leader of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, dey plan to defect to African Democratic Congress (ADC). Sources say Kwankwaso go likely join ADC next week after consultations with opposition leaders like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar during Sallah celebrations for Kano.

Political analysts believe say this move fit reshape Nigeria political landscape ahead of 2027 general elections. Professor Kamilu Fagge of Bayero University talk say the emerging alliance among opposition leaders dey aim to strengthen their chances for the next election.

Another development wey dey shake Kano politics na speculation say Nasiru Gawuna, the APC governorship candidate for 2023 election, fit abandon the ruling party and align with Kwankwaso for ADC. Political commentator Umar Labaran Danga talk say Gawuna potential defection fit weaken former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje influence for the state.

Sources within APC claim say Ganduje attempts to prevent Gawuna exit from the party no work after alleged negotiations between Gawuna supporters and Kwankwaso camp.

Now say Gwarzo don resign, attention don shift to who go replace am as deputy governor. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf dey consider different candidates for the position. One of the leading contenders na Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Ismaila Jibril Falgore, wey Governor Yusuf reportedly dey position for the role.

All Progressives Congress (APC) dey back their 2023 deputy governorship candidate, Murtala Sule Garo, for the position. But sources reveal say Governor Yusuf get serious reservations about Garo and dey push for Falgore instead.

Another strong contender na former State House of Assembly Speaker, Alhassan Rirum, wey currently serve as member of House of Representatives. Sources say Kano South Senatorial District and National Assembly members from Kano dey support Rirum for the deputy governor position.

The search for new deputy governor dey cause division within APC for Kano. Ganduje loyalists dey insist say Murtala Sule Garo deserve compensation with the slot since e no get any appointment under President Bola Tinubu administration. But Governor Yusuf supporters dey push for Ismaila Jibril Falgore wey show loyalty during the governor defection to APC.

As political maneuvering dey continue, Kano State Government never issue official statement about who go replace Gwarzo or the next line of action. Government sources say consultations dey ongoing to ensure smooth transition.

Gwarzo for im resignation letter talk say im decision na to allow the administration focus on governance without distractions. “In view of the prevailing circumstances, I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the State to move forward without undue distractions,” e write.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement say Gwarzo plan to focus on strengthening the movement ahead of 2027 general elections. This development come as opposition parties dey form alliances to challenge ruling party for the next election cycle.

Political observers dey watch how these developments go affect Kano politics and Nigeria political landscape generally. The potential defection of Kwankwaso to ADC and possible alignment of Gawuna with am fit create new political dynamics for the state and national level.
