Na wah! Omo, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai wey be former Chief of Army Staff don drop serious warning for our ears. E talk say the way wey dem dey deploy military people for internal security matter for Naija dey bad for our police wahala. E say e dey carry stability come, but e dey also dey weaken the police and other security agents wey suppose take charge.
Buratai yarn all dis gist during him lecture wey happen for Abuja as part of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration. E don notice say na this military presence wey dey show for all 36 states dey make police no fit grow well and dem dey lose their effectiveness.
According to am, “The extensive deployment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in internal security provides immediate stability, but it also perpetuates a cycle of dependency that weakens civil police capacity and strains defence resources.” E no lie. Wetin dis mean be say our military don dey stretch too much and the budget for them dey shift to normal police work.
For Buratai mind, the military suppose dey focus on external wahala, like protecting our territory and fighting insurgents. E gree say military fit help when necessary but not say make dem be the main people for internal security work. “Internal security, more or less, should be civil-driven and intelligence-driven by the state intelligence services and the police, essentially,” e say.
Buratai dey call for proper plan wey go make sure say dem fit return security matters to civilian people, while still ensuring say our troops dey ready for any aggression from outside. E don already talk say long-term peace and democracy for Naija dey depend on a strong, active police.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa no rest for the matter o. E don talk say dem need to tackle the local transportation wey criminals dey use for carry guns, drugs, and other bad things inside the country. E dey shout say security no be only for military, but everybody get role to play.
E add, “Security is a shared responsibility. Local governments, traditional rulers, religious leaders and communities all have critical roles to play.” If dem no join hand together, wahala go continue dey vex us.
Musa dey assure Naija people say federal government dey try to build military wey go fit stand on their own, with better welfare and local production for defence materials. Na so we go fit reduce dependency on foreign tools.
Na so e talk am for the gathering, while dem dey try to cut off the criminal networks wey dey drag us back. Naija people dey hope say with these new plans, dem go fit bring back better peace and security as we dey face bandits and all these criminals wey no wan give us rest. Omo, make we just dey hope say dis gists go bring better change.
