Na deep matter wey Tukur Buratai, di former Chief of Army Staff, talk for Abuja yesterday! E don drop bombshell about how Nigeria need serious change for security, defence and governance. This man no wan make we continue dey waka for one spot while all di koko dey outside.
Buratai dey talk am as he dey deliver lecture wey dem title ‘Securing Nigeria’s Future: The Armed Forces and National Development’. E come dey highlight say, if Nigeria want collect di long-term stability and national development wey we dey find, make we start to reorganise how we dey use our security forces.
Di former army man sabi say make we no dey rely on di military alone for internal security. Na wah! He suggest say make we transfer internal security matter to our police, wey suppose be more prepared and well-equipped. Buratai dey propose we go increase police officers to 1.5 million, so military fit focus on external wahala, abi na external threats wey go fit spoil our matter.
But no be only that one! Buratai come get another big gist wey concern technology. E dey call for National Defence Innovation Fund (NDIF), make dem dey use public-private partnership. Dis fund go help us develop technology for cyber defence, unmanned aerial systems, and other things wey fit help our security level-up!
Na serious ground be this o! E dey talk say if we put our money there, e go no just help military but also go create ogbonge jobs for civilian tech industries. Wetin be di point of spending money for defence and e no fit help our economy? Me I no sabi!
Buratai dey talk about youth matter too. E dey suggest say make dem transform di National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) into one national service wey go involve both military and civic tracks. This one go promote national unity and improve skills wey youths go fit carry go as dem dey grow.
And e no stop there, oh! Di man dey shout say make we pass Veterans’ Rights and Transition Act. This one go ensure say our veterans no go dey suffer after dem don serve. Dem deserve am, no be wetin you fit just throway like trash after dem don fight for us.
On top of all this gist, Buratai dey also insist say Nigeria no fit dey do security matter alone. E sabi say West and Central Africa stability dey important. So, e dey call for more cooperation with other countries wey dey face di same wahala. Na only united front go fit deal with things like terrorism, piracy, and arms trafficking.
For di minister of defence, Christopher Musa, e don talk say di government dey serious about building strong military. Dem dey prioritise better training for troops and local defence production, make we no dey always depend on foreign supplies.
E be like say Buratai way sabi wetin e dey talk, get enough backup. Former army chiefs too dey agree with am on how Nigeria fit use its veterans to tackle di security issues wey we get. No be small matter wey dey happen for di country, my people! Na time to take action be this!
