The Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I don waka come off planet Earth, at the age of 89 on January 12, 2026. E don dey dem no be small thing, as him reign last for almost 50 years, na real big wahala and size be that. E be like say, Oba Akran don jam am small bit, but na God dey control everything.
Oba Menu-Toyi I take over as the 17th Akran of Badagry on April 23, 1977, after the Lagos State Executive Council give am the gree. Na from dia, small small him begin dey shine like star for Badagry, making sure say all the obodo people dey okay. E no just carry crown; this man sabi wetin e dey do!
Him talk say born on September 18, 1936. Before the king life, him no just sit down dey look; him start as teacher, then e move go journalism. Na him work for big newspapers like West African Pilot and Daily Sketch, where him even make oga for news as Acting News Editor (South). Dis background no be play o, e help am scatter ground well for leadership.
Throughout him reign, wey long pass many people wey fit dey in charge today, Oba Menu-Toyi I no just dey show face; him dey bring everybody together, make dem gree work for the community. If you hear na real community development him dey do! E be like movie.
No be only for Badagry, this man dey shine for Lagos State too, as e serve as the Permanent Vice-Chairman of Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs. Gosh, talk about respect! Dem even give am national honour, OFR, in 1981, and him carry various honorary degrees join, including for Law. Na so you know say him don really try well well!
Badagry no be just any town; e get history wey heavy. Na here be the ancestral home for many, and Oba Menu-Toyi I dey promote peace and unity, try ensure say everybody dey jolly together. Dem no dey forget as he dey lead dem during hard times, like na him be dem wise father.
The palace don confirm say doctors don check am, he don carry leg waka well from this world. As we dey talk now, dem don start traditional burial rites to honour am according to our customs. But e be like say the Lagos State Government never drop any official statement, but palava don dey, we go dey see tributes from big men and women wey know am, plus regular people wey him don touch their lives.
So my people, as we dey close this story, we go remember the great contributions of Oba Menu-Toyi I, the man wey fit stand tall anywhere, anytime. Rest in peace, our Oba!
