FG Bring New Stamp Duty Rule: ₦50 Go Enter Transfer from ₦10k Come 2026

Nigerian government don drop fresh guideline wey go change how stamp duty dey work for digital transactions, as dem plan make the new rule start fully from January 1, 2026.

According to information wey banks don begin send give customers, the new arrangement na to bring more clarity, transparency and protection for people wey dey use electronic transfer and online agreements every day.

Under the new rule, ₦50 stamp duty go dey charged on every electronic transfer of ₦10,000 and above, and na sender go pay am. This charge no be normal bank transfer fee, as e dey separate on its own.

However, government clear say transfers wey dey below ₦10,000 no go attract stamp duty at all. Salary payments and transfers inside the same bank (intra-bank transfers) also dey exempt, meaning customers no go pay anything extra for those ones.

For the legal side, government don officially recognize electronic contracts and loan agreements, meaning say any agreement wey people sign online now get full legal backing under Nigerian law. This move go help protect individuals and businesses wey dey operate digitally.

Another major change be say general agreements now go attract flat ₦1,000 stamp duty, instead of the old system wey dey calculate am with percentage. Government talk say this one go make charges clearer and easier for people to understand before dem commit to any agreement.

Banks say all these changes na part of effort to make financial transactions more transparent and remove confusion about hidden charges. Dem also promise say dem go continue to inform customers as the implementation date dey approach.
