INEC don display final list of candidates for 2027 Enugu governorship election. Sixteen candidates dey on the list. The electoral body display the document at its Enugu headquarters on Sunday. The list carry personal credentials of all the candidates wey want enter Enugu Government House.
Governor Peter Mbah, wey dey contest on APC platform, dey seek re-election. He go face former Minister, Chief Uchenna Nnaji, wey dey fly PDP flag. Other contenders na Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa of NDC and Chief Obodoeze Ocho of ADC.
Names wey also dey list include Mr Edwin Alor of Accord, Prof. Jehu Nnaji of NNPP, and Mr Okwudilichukwu Ugwu of LP. Others na Mr Nnamdi Ugwu of DLA, Mr Anthony Udeani of YPP, and Mr Afamefuna Ani of APP.
The remaining candidates na Mr Elvis Ugwoke of ZLP, Mr Friday Iloka of SDP, and Mr Nnamdi Omeje of ADP. Mr Ken Ikeh of APM, Chief Obioma Nnamani of BOOT Party, and Mr Ndubuisi Okonkwo of NRM also dey the list.
Candidates don intensify statewide electioneering activities. Dem dey engage stakeholders and elder statesmen ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Mbah expected to campaign on his administration projects, programmes and social interventions as he seeks re-election. Government sources describe the administration verifiable projects and social interventions impacting the people as key strengths ahead of the poll.
The election dey shape up as crowded contest. Mbah dey face 15 challengers wey want wrest control of Enugu State from APC.
For Nnaji side, Daily Trust report say the former Minister of Science and Technology resign from his position after allegation say he get fake documents. Dem allege say he present fake academic and NYSC certificates to President Bola Tinubu and Senate during 2023 screening. University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, deny say e give Nnaji the degree certificate. UNN say dem admit am in 1981 but he no finish im studies and dem no give am degree. For one affidavit wey dem present for court, Nnaji admit say the university never give am degree certificate and he never receive that kind paper.
INEC final list wey Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony sign put Nnaji name at number 13. The PDP governorship candidate no submit the disputed degree. He submit WAEC result instead.
ICPC arrest Nnaji for Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on July 1, 2026. The commission say the arrest follow im refusal to answer several invitations. Later dem arraign am before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of Federal High Court Abuja. Dem accuse am of forged certificate, abuse of office and money laundering. Nnaji plead not guilty. Court grant am bail for N20 million with one surety.
Also, name of former Minister of Communications, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, no show for final list of Gombe governorship candidates. INEC approve 16 candidates for the state governorship election wey go hold on February 6, 2027.
