Abuja, Nigeria — E be like say we don enter movie scene as Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State don finally settle matter with his political paddy, Nyesom Wike. Trust me, this matter na serious gist wey dey hot! As dem gather for Aso Rock on Thursday night, na President Bola Tinubu na im gather dem together, talk say make dem settle their wahala.
Although some supporters dey hail the peace move, others dey look am with one eye (you sabi those pepper dem eyes?). Some say na fragile peace wey no go last, while others dey talk say Fubara don surrender. Wetin you fit call am na “you no go contest again in 2027” agreement wey Fubara enter as part of the deal. E no easy o!
Sources wey dey close to the matter talk say, Fubara gree finish him time wey e dey rule but make we no expect am to come back for the next round. Dem also talk say Wike go fit choose all the local government chairmen wey go dey run the 23 LGAs of Rivers State. Chai! Na wetin we call big man politics!
Wike self come yarn with journalists after the meeting, e say the wahala wey don dey between him and Fubara don finish finally. “We be one political family,” Wike talk. E admit say di issue don dey drag for months, but now dem don settle am for good. “Dis agreement na final!” he stated, like say e don cast spell for am.
But Fubara too talk say the whole matter na divine intervention, as if na God send to come clear the wahala of Rivers State. Him even promise say he go work fully to preserve this peace wey dem don achieve. E be like say dem don enter one kind brotherman arrangement.
Make we no forget the drama wey don dey happen before dis meeting. Since Fubara come office in May 2023, na fight be this like say dem dey compete for who go carry trophy! E start as some lawmakers wey dey loyal to Wike don even begin impeachment process for Fubara. Na so wahala begin brew, and before you know am, dem don dey demolish Assembly complex like say na Lego game.
Fast forward to March 2025, things come get as dem dey declare state of emergency, and Tinubu come fit carry dem sit down for peace talk like chill wine for party. But now, some people like Dr Leloonu Nwibubasa no gree say na reconciliation. He dey argue say na surrender be this matter, as Fubara waka go Aso Rock alone without any of him supporters.
Nwibubasa no dey play o! E tell Saturday PUNCH say, “Wike carry him full army, but Fubara na lone soldier wey just come walk vanish without no body. You no fit call am reconciliation; na surrender, my people!”
The Rivers Emancipation Movement join the gist too, saying dis type of reconciliation no go benefit Rivers people at all. Them even talk say this arrangement dey favor only small group of individuals while the common man dey suffer. They gree say Fubara no carry dem along, and that one no go well for the future.
Meanwhile, some supporters of the peace talks dey shine their eyes. Jerry Omatsogunwa, wey be advisor for media to Fubara, dey hopeful say dis peace fit bring development for the state. Him dey remind everybody say the emergency rule don scatter plenty businesses for Rivers, and now na time to rebuild.
Ogbonna Nwuke, wey be former Rep member, talk say dis meeting dey mark di high point of several peace talks and efforts from Tinubu. He come dey optimistic say na good sign for the future of Rivers.
So, as dem don shake hands and declare peace, one question dey float for everybody mind: Na dis kind peace go last or e go just be like one Naija movie wey dey end suddenly? Time go tell, my people!
