WAEC Don Bring Computer Exam. Na Big Shift for Nigeria Education

Lagos, NigeriaWest African Examinations Council (WAEC) don launch di first Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for school candidates, wey go take place from April 24 to June 20, 2025. Dis new move dey aimed to improve how examinations dey delivered and stop all di wahala wey dey happen for malpractice.

Dr. Amos Dangut, di Head of Nigeria National Office for WAEC, talk am during press briefing for WAEC National Office for Yaba, Lagos. He explain say dis new CBT system go help maintain academic integrity as no two candidates go see di same questions. E add say, “Di Council don prepare well for dis examination, and we dey confident for di success of di process.”

He also disclose say 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools don register to take di exam. Dis figure don increase by over 158,000 from di year wey pass, with 979,228 boys (49.63 percent) and 994,025 girls (50.37 percent), showing say girls participation dey increase steady.

“Di examination go cover 74 subjects with 196 papers, and over 26,000 senior secondary school teachers go serve as supervisors across Nigeria,” Dangut explain. He acknowledge say security challenges don affect examination administration for some areas, but he assure say dem don work with Nigeria Police and State Governments to ensure say everything smooth.

On di matter of examination malpractice, Dangut don warn candidates, supervisors, and schools to dey follow di examination rules sharply. “574 schools don receive sanctions for malpractice. Di Council dey serious about stopping dis wahala; any candidate wey write paper outside wetin dem give am go face di consequences.” He urge parents, teachers, and school leaders to talk to students about di dangers of malpractice.

WAEC don also introduce digital platforms to help candidates prepare well. Dem get WAEC E-Study Portal wey provide past questions and learning plans, WAEC E-Learning Portal wey dey offer performance analysis, and WAEC Konnect wey go help communication between candidates and stakeholders. Dangut talk say, “We go make past question papers and Chief Examiners’ Reports available to help candidates know wetin dem suppose expect.”

He caution parents against using rogue websites and warn say these people dey threat to di future of Nigerian students. “We go continue to work with di Nigeria Police to bring dis people to book,” e add.

Results for di 2025 examination go dey released 45 days after di last paper, with certificates available within 90 days. “Digital copies of certificates go dey accessible through WAEC Digital Certificate platform,” Dangut conclude, expressing gratitude to all stakeholders for their support. “We dey look to make dis WASSCE for School Candidates 2025 a big success.”
