UK and Solomon Islands Don Join Hand for Sport and Transparency

Honiara, Solomon IslandsUK government don show strong commitment as dem sign technical agreement with Solomon Islands government to kickstart EITI re-entry on November 25, 2025. EITI, we do know say na global initiative wey dey promote transparent management of oil, gas, and mining resources. Na wa, dem say we must shine our eyes!

Solomon Islands join EITI back in 2012 but waka comot in 2019. But as democrative society no dey sleep, dem decide to rejoin EITI framework on May 12, 2025. Na move wey fit help put sense for di mining sector and address how dem dey manage resources.

Fast forward to June 18, 2025, Solomon Islands government don formally tell EITI International Secretariat say dem ready for re-engagement and even set up Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) in July. Na dis MSG go dey oversee how EITI go dey implemented in di country. E get people wey represent government, civil society, landowners, and licensed mining companies. Na wah, teamwork go help o!

Dis week sign of di agreement go really give better support for EITI work in Solomon Islands. Di technical assistance agreement go last from November 2025 to March 2026. Dem don confirm say United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) go oversee di implementation. Better partnership wey go affect lives, no be small!

EITI Standard dey guide how countries suppose implement EITI, and na him be di global benchmark for transparency and accountability for oil, gas, and mining sectors. Na wetin dem dey call “we must show wetin we dey do and how we dey do am”!

Meanwhile, Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele dey bask in di glory of di fresh partnership wey dem don form with Wynnum Wolves. Dem talk say dis partnership go transform player development for di first professional football club wey dem get for di country. Manele dey hail am as “transformative”! As e dey speak for Brisbane, he talk say dis partnership go need join effort to upgrade sports for dem side.

Since July, Wynnum Wolves, SIFF and national government don work together to launch Solomon Kings wey go dey compete for FIFA Oceania Pro League starting January. National pride dey seek for dem!

Prime Minister come dey talk about di importance of sports to nation-building. E aim to excel for economic transformation, unity and stability, and of course, to upgrade human capacity. Na wha e call four pillars o!

Na so di Solomon Islands women’s national team too don shine for OFC Women’s Nations Cup wey dem win against Papua New Guinea 3-2. Na only Jesus fit take dem for Timaya dance for joy o!

Wynnum Wolves President, Rabieh Krayem, join di chorus of praise wey dey go around, say di partnership no go just raise football but go also help young people develop confidence and discipline. No be only football game we go build but also better human beings! Na good one be dat!
