A ranar Litinin, 21 ga Oktoba, 2024, kotun soja ta Uganda ta yanke hukunci a kan memban 16 na jam’iyyar adawa ta National Unity Platform (NUP) da laifin mallakar makamai na haram da kariya. Wannan hukunci ya zo bayan shekaru huɗu da yawan shari’a da aka yi wa wadannan ‘yan adawa, wadanda suka ki amincewa da laifin har zuwa ranar 14 ga Oktoba, lokacin da suka canza ra’ayinsu bayan matsalolin da suka fuskanta a gidan yari na Kitalya Maximum Security Prison.
Membobin NUP wadanda aka taƙaita sun hada da Olivia Lutaaya, wacce ta zama fuskoki ga ‘yan adawa da aka kama, tare da wasu 15. An kama su a watan Nuwamba 2020 a yankin Kalangala yayin da suke yin kamfe na shugaban NUP, Robert Kyagulanyi, wanda aka fi sani da Bobi Wine. An zarge su da mallakar makamai na haram da laifin kariya, laifin da zai iya hukuncin kisa idan aka yanke hukunci.
Balam Barugahara, wanda shine sabon ministan matasa da yara, ya taka rawa wajen canzawa ra’ayin ‘yan adawa bayan ya ziyarci gidan yarin Kitalya kwanaki biyu kafin su canza ra’ayinsu. Barugahara ya ce cewa amincewar da suka yi za su baiwa damar samun ‘yanci, amma ya bayyana cewa zai yi tarayya don neman hukunci maras shida daga shugaban ƙasa Yoweri Museveni.
Wannan hukunci ya zama batun tattaunawa a cikin jam’iyyar NUP, inda wasu ‘yan adawa suka zargi shugaban jam’iyyar, Bobi Wine, da amfani da haliyar ‘yan adawa don manufar siyasa da tara kudi a kasashen waje. Bobi Wine ya musanta zargin, ya ce ‘sallamar da su don hana kasuwancina ya fale’.
