Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria — On Tuesday, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the President, distributed 10,000 professional kits including crocs and scrubs to midwives in the South-South region. The event took place in Asaba, Delta State, as part of efforts to enhance the health sector in Nigeria.
During the distribution, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the importance of collaborative initiatives to uplift healthcare services across the nation. She stated, “This is part of the health programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative. These kits are meant for student midwives as part of our support for them.” This distribution is a continuation of similar efforts previously undertaken in the North-Central and North-West regions.
Mrs. Tinubu also announced a plan to provide free sanitary pads to girls in rural areas to aid in reducing school absenteeism during menstruation. “Additionally, there is an education-focused campaign called ‘Flow with Confidence’, which provides free sanitary pads to girls in rural areas to ensure they do not miss school due to menstruation,” she added.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori lauded the First Lady for her generous contribution. He pointed out that the program has already reached the North-Central and North-West regions. “Today is the turn of the South-South, and the First Lady has chosen Delta State as the launch point for the program in the Niger Delta region,” he remarked.
The event saw the participation of the Vice President’s wife, Nana Shettima, who also recognized the importance of improving healthcare standards in Nigeria. With this initiative, the Renewed Hope Initiative aims to further develop the healthcare capacity and infrastructure necessary for midwives in the South-South.
