Tenerife Don Dey Flex For Survival; Granada Dem Don Fall Again!

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain – Tenerife take important step towards staying in LaLiga after they bounce back to win 2-1 against Granada in a thrilling match on March 28, 2025.

The game started poorly for Tenerife as they went behind early in the match. Granada’s Lucas Boyé converted a penalty in the 35th minute to give the visitors the lead. Despite starting strong, Tenerife struggled to find their rhythm and fell behind but managed to regroup as the game progressed.

Tenerife coach, Álvaro Cervera, caught everyone off guard by starting Ángel in the XI, while Granada’s Fran Escribá maintained the same lineup that secured a win against Real Oviedo the previous week. The first half saw Granada putting on pressure, pinning Tenerife in their half.

It was clear that pressure would pay off for Granadab, with a string of chances leading to Bodiger hitting the crossbar just before halftime. Luismi and Bodiger both showed promising efforts to equalize, but they were either blocked or went wide.

In the second half, Tenerife came out with renewed determination and found an equalizer amidst fortune when Bodiger’s shot deflected off Granada’s Manu Lama, making it 1-1 in the 53rd minute. The Heliodoro Rodríguez López erupted as the home side realized they had a chance to fight back.

Granada’s troubles intensified when they went down to 10 men after Lama received a red card for a foul just outside the area. This set the stage for Luismi Cruz, who scored from a direct free kick in the 77th minute, sealing the comeback for Tenerife and putting them ahead 2-1.

Post-match, Cervera expressed his pride, stating, “The boys showed real character today. This win gives us hope and boosts our chances of staying in LaLiga.”

Granada coach Escribá lamented missed opportunities and expressed disappointment. “We should’ve put the game to bed when we had the chances. Now we have to regroup and focus on our next game,” he noted.

The victory leaves Tenerife still in the relegation zone but cuts the gap to survival to just nine points, while Granada, holding onto eighth place, missed the chance to make a significant leap towards playoff contention.

The final statistics showed a closely contested match with Tenerife holding 52% possession compared to 48% for Granada, reflecting a competitive game where both sides pushed hard for the win. Tenerife’s next match sees them travel to face Sporting Gijón, while Granada will host Almería in their next encounter.
