Hyderabad, India – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) kicked off their IPL 2025 campaign with a remarkable victory, defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 44 runs on Sunday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Ishan Kishan made a sensational debut for SRH, scoring a blistering century off just 45 balls, paving the way for a formidable total of 286 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs. His explosive performance included 12 sixes and 6 fours.
Travis Head also contributed significantly with 67 runs off 31 deliveries, while Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Reddy, and Abhishek Sharma added quick runs to bolster SRH’s total. Their score fell just one run short of the IPL’s record for the highest innings.
RR captain Riyan Parag won the toss and chose to bowl first, but his team faced early setbacks, losing key players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, and Nitish Rana during the powerplay.
Despite a solid resistance from Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel, who scored fifties, RR struggled to keep pace with the required run rate. The team’s total of 242 for 7 was not enough to challenge SRH’s imposing score.
Following the match, SRH coach praised the squad’s performance, saying, “We are thrilled with the way the team executed their plans today. Ishan’s innings was extraordinary and set the tone for our victory.”
With this win, SRH showcases its potential as a title contender in the IPL 2025 season. They look to continue this momentum in their upcoming matches.
