Sudan and Senegal Clash for World Cup Qualifier Title Today!

Rabat, Morocco — Today, Sudan and Senegal go head-to-head in a crucial CAF World Cup qualifier at the Benina Martyrs Stadium, Benghazi, Libya. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. Moroccan time (GMT), with both teams eager to secure a spot in the expanded 2026 World Cup.

Sudan currently leads Group B with 10 points, aiming to maintain their top position and achieve their first-ever World Cup appearance. The Falcons of Jediane have shown remarkable form in this qualifying campaign, remaining unbeaten with three wins and one draw. Sudan’s journey started with a 1-1 draw against Togo, but they quickly recovered, winning subsequent matches against Congo DR, Mauritania, and South Sudan.

“We have a lot of good players who are physically strong and hardworking,” said Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah. “Despite the limited talent pool, our players are ambitious, and I believe they can achieve great things with the right support and preparation.”

On the other side, Senegal, the reigning African champions, find themselves in second place with 8 points. The Teranga Lions started strong with a victory over South Sudan, but they have faced setbacks, including a goalless draw against Togo. Senegal hopes to assert their dominance in this must-win encounter, particularly after a disappointing AFCON performance where they were eliminated in the round of 16.

“We need to approach this match with confidence. Breaking down Sudan’s well-organized defense won’t be easy,” said Senegal’s coach, who took over in December 2024. Senegal’s squad includes stars like Sadio Mané, aiming to capitalize on their previous successes against Sudan. Indeed, Senegal has a perfect record against Sudan, winning all three past encounters.

Sudan’s starting lineup is expected to include goalkeeper Mustafa and key players like Abdelrahman, who is on the verge of becoming the national team’s all-time top scorer with 23 goals. Sudan typically plays with a compact defensive setup, relying on quick transitions to launch counter-attacks.

Meanwhile, Senegal’s lineup will likely feature Erling Haaland, who leads their attack after recovering from an injury. Despite a rocky start in the qualifiers, Norway’s star player is critical to their success. “We are focused on starting this campaign strong,” Haaland said, highlighting the significance of the match.

Both teams come into this game with momentum, Sudan having secured four consecutive unbeaten matches in all competitions. Nevertheless, playing at a neutral venue presents an added challenge. While Suden hopes for an advantage, Senegal’s experience may play a pivotal role.

As fans eagerly await the kickoff, all eyes will be on the pitch for what promises to be an intense battle for World Cup qualification.
