SRH Fit To Set New IPL Record as They Face MI Na Waka!

Mumbai, India — As the Indian Premier League (IPL) rumbles on, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) eye a historic first 300-run total as they take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 33rd match on April 17, 2025. The clash comes as both teams sit on four points from six matches, with net run-rate being the only separator on the points table.

Last season saw a shocking rise in high scores, prompting predictions that a team would soon cross the 300-run mark in a match. SRH’s bowling coach until last year, made a bold forecast, stating, “April 17 we’ll see the first 300 in IPL. Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen.” As the day approaches, anticipation builds around whether SRH can deliver on that promise.

The game holds special stakes not just for SRH but also for MI. Each club faces a critical period, as they not only battle for points but also contend with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are currently at the bottom of the table. This match marks the first of two meetings between MI and SRH this week, which could dictate the fates of both former IPL champions in upcoming matches.

Both teams come into the match under pressure, with MI looking to improve from a mixed record of wins and losses — WLLWL — in their last five matches. SRH’s form hasn’t been any better, registering five straight losses (WLLLL). Ishan Kishan will face his old team, having switched to SRH after MI chose not to retain him. He’ll be eager to prove his worth after being acquired for INR 11.25 crore during the auction.

The batting line-up from both teams is poised for explosive results. MI will enter the contest with key players like Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya at the helm. Meanwhile, for SRH, Kishan will look to make an impact along with Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen. The showdown in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is traditionally known for its chase-favorable pitch, but recent data shows teams batting first have triumphed in five of the last nine games.

As tension builds leading into the matchday, head coach Daniel Vettori of SRH highlights the importance of early wickets to curb MI’s strong batting lineup. “We need to stop their explosive batting,” Vettori said. Conversely, MI’s fast bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, look to reclaim their formidable status against SRH’s batting prowess.

Match time approaches, raising the stakes as both teams have everything to play for in hopes of turning their seasons around. As fans eagerly await this historic clash, all eyes will be on whether SRH can break records or if MI will reign supreme once again.
