Lagos, Nigeria — Nigerian businesswoman Shade Okoya don open up about her marriage to industrialist Razak Okoya, wey be 85 years old, and how she no see anything wrong for marrying person wey dey much older than her. Shade meet her husband for 1999 when she be 21 years old, while he be 59.
In an interview wey she do with BBC Yoruba, Shade talk say her husband no waste time to show his intentions when dem meet. She praise the way wey Razak take support her, insist say she dey very happy for their marriage and no think say she dey miss anything for marrying older man.
“My husband don dey very generous with me. He dey defend me everywhere. God don talk say this na where I go dey,” she talk. “We meet each other, and he like me, and he no waste time at all. I dey happy for my marriage. He dey far older than me, but I no think say I dey miss anything for not marrying a young man.”
Shade also talk about how her family react to her decision. She explain say even though her papa don die, her mama and grandma support the marriage 100 percent. dem no get any issue with her choice.
She further clarify say she no just sit down as housewife; instead, she dey run her own businesses while still dey take care of her husband. “Before we marry, my husband tell me say I go work and no go be just housewife. I still dey give am personal attention, despite say I get people wey dey help me,” she add.
As Shade talk about the choice wey she make, she respond to critics wey dey ask why she no choose to marry somebody wey younger. “E no concern me. I dey very fulfilled,” she conclude, showing say she no regret her decision. Shade now 48 years old, dey enjoy her life and family, and she no wan change am for anything.
