Saka Fit to Play, Jorginho and Calafiori Dealing with Injuries

LONDON, England — Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta announced on Tuesday that Bukayo Saka has a strong chance to play in Wednesday’s match against Crystal Palace despite suffering a knock on Sunday.

Saka, who was substituted in the 57th minute of Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Ipswich Town, sustained an injury from a harsh tackle by Leif Davis. Arteta provided updates during a press conference at the Sobha Realty Training Centre, stating, “If we want to, I think he has a good chance to play tomorrow,” echoing optimism regarding the situation.

Arteta confirmed that the team will monitor how Saka responds after the team’s training session. “We have to wait and see how he reacts, but it’s nothing too serious,” he explained. The injury raised concerns among fans, especially after Saka received on-field medical attention following the incident.

However, the news is not as positive for defenders Riccardo Calafiori and Jorginho. Arteta stated, “Yes, Ricci is out and Jorginho is as well. Unfortunately, Jorginho will be out for a few weeks.” Jorginho’s injury was sustained during a previous match against Brentford.

On whether Jorginho will return this season, Arteta remarked, “I hope so, but I’m not certain.” He noted that while the player is improving and feeling better post-injury, a full recovery may take time.

Arteta also addressed the ongoing injury troubles Calafiori has faced since joining from Bologna, saying, “Three of the injuries are impact injuries. One is a really bad twist that could have been worse.” He emphasized the need for better management of players to avoid similar situations in the future.

Despite several key players missing, Arteta is focused on maintaining momentum ahead of their UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain next week. “We cannot think in those terms,” he responded when asked about resting players. “When the players are fit and available, they want to play, they have to play.”

Arteta feels consistency is crucial for player performance and that fielding a strong squad is vital, especially as they head into a critical part of the season.

The upcoming match against Crystal Palace will see the Gunners aim to continue their positive form. Arteta commended his players for their hard work leading to recent victories: “They are at their best when they are playing. That’s why we need them.”

Crystal Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner, is also preparing for the showdown, subtly indicating potential squad rotations in light of their FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. He said, “We have to look at what’s best and which players are in the best shape,” emphasizing the importance of the match for both teams.

Tickets for the encounter remain available through the Ticket Exchange, allowing fans an opportunity to witness this exciting fixture as Arsenal continues their push for league and cup success.
