HARRISON, NJ (March 29, 2025) – New York Red Bulls II (1-0-1, 4 pts) go face to face against NYCFC II (2-0-1, 7 pts) for their home opener of the 2025 season on Sunday, March 30, at Sports Illustrated Stadium. The match, which kicks off at 2:00 p.m. ET, also marks the first edition of the Hudson River Derby this season.
Red Bulls II come into this game following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Philadelphia Union II, where they managed to equalize in stoppage time thanks to forward Tanner Rosborough’s decisive strike. Rosborough has been in impressive form, also scoring in a recent training camp with the U.S. U-17 team during their 4-2 victory over Costa Rica.
“I felt really good after the camp. Scoring the equalizer for my team was a big moment,” said Rosborough. “Now, I’m focused on carrying that momentum into this weekend’s match.”
Head-to-head, Red Bulls II have always found the back of the net against NYCFC II in their six previous matchups, highlighting their resilience in vital moments. Historically, they have scored four goals in the final 15 minutes of those encounters, a testament to their fighting spirit.
Midfielder Steven Sserwadda, who has a knack for crucial late-game goals, remembers the last meeting with NYCFC II and the dramatic equalizer in the 92nd minute. “It’s something we pride ourselves on, never giving up,” he commented.
Meanwhile, the Red Bulls’ key player, Ibrahim Kasule, leads the team with three goal contributions against NYCFC II in five appearances. His memorable performance on July 9, 2023, where he made two contributions, will be a reference point heading into Sunday’s game.
“I know what it takes to win this match,” Kasule said. “I’m ready to help my team push for victory.”
NYCFC II, coming off a 2-1 win over Carolina Core FC, are currently enjoying their strong form, but the Red Bulls will be looking to exploit any weakness. “We need to stay sharp defensively, they are a strong team,” Red Bulls head coach added in confidence.
The Red Bulls currently stand seventh in the Eastern Conference, while NYCFC II sits higher at fourth. This derby is not just about points; it’s also about pride in the Hudson River rivalry.
Following Sunday’s game, the Red Bulls will host Chicago Fire II on April 6 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Fans can catch all the action through MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
