Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a total of 130 suspects, including 113 foreign nationals and 17 Nigerians, for their alleged involvement in high-level cybercrimes and hacking activities that threaten national security.
The suspects, comprising 87 males and 26 females from China and Malaysia, were arrested during a coordinated raid on a building at the Next Cash and Carry area in the Jahi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, the operation was led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Benneth Igweh, and involved officers from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command Abuja and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
Adejobi stated that the suspects were using computers and other sophisticated devices to facilitate their criminal activities. The police are currently investigating the matter and scientifically analysing the exhibits recovered from the suspects.
The Force Public Relations Officer assured that the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigations and that the public will be updated on the outcomes as and when due.
