Nouakchott, Mauritania – E don happen again! On May 27, 2025, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the man wey dey carry the presidential title for Mauritania, gather with Mr. Thibaut Bruttin, Director General of Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Na serious gist wey dem get for this meeting as dem talk about press freedom for Mauritania. E good to know say according to RSF latest report, Mauritania na the number one for press freedom for the Arab world (make una no sleep on top this news o!).
Dem also gree say the government dey try to professionalize media work and make sure say journalists fit do their work without wahala. This na big move as e go allow dem to operate under better conditions (no more dodging of questions, abi?).
Earlier on May 23, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, just land back from Brussels after attending African and European Union ministers’ meeting. Wetin dem talk for there? Na cooperation and better relationships between dem in the international scene (plenty gists wey dey flow o!).
As if that one no be enough, the Minister wey dey handle Budget, Ould Gaguih, also meet with the Egyptian Ambassador, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Abdelhamid Taya. Their own agenda? To strengthen partnerships between Egypt and Mauritania (them don dey plan plenty business moves). You know say two heads dey better pass one, true tru!
Another meeting wey happen on the same day, Minister of Higher Education, Mr. Yacoub Ould Moine, sit down with the Spanish Ambassador, Mr. Pablo Barbara Gomez. Their own discussion focus on how to develop higher education and scientific research in both countries (guy, dem no dey slack at all!).
Then for Saturday, May 25, 2025, Minister Ould Gaguih jump plane go Paris for World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) meeting. Na there dem go yarn about animal vaccine availability and accessibility (other countries dey waka go Paris for wahala, im dey waka for animal matter!).
Chai! E be like say the government dey shine their eyes and move forward with international relations, no be small! From media freedom to education and agriculture, dem dey try get things on point. Na only time go tell how all these meetings go pan out for Mauritania. But make we dey watch as e dey unfold!
