Monaco Win Tense Battle Against Nice, 2-1!

Monaco, France — For the second time this season, AS Monaco defeated OGC Nice in a tightly contested match, concluding with a score of 2-1 on March 29, 2025. This victory allows Monaco to maintain their strong positioning in the Ligue 1 standings as they battle for Champions League qualification.

The first half was marked by a crucial goal from Nice’s Jérémie Boga in the 40th minute, who headed the ball into the bottom left corner, assisted by Jonathan Clauss. This early advantage put pressure on Monaco to respond, which they took effecting in the second half.

After the break, Monaco showed resilience, equalizing in the 54th minute through Mika Biereth. The young forward struck the ball into the top right corner, following an assist from Maghnes Akliouche. The momentum shifted as Monaco aimed to reverse their fortunes uninterrupted.

Monaco took the lead in the 72nd minute with Breel Embolo‘s brilliant right-footed shot from the center of the box to the top left corner, again assisted by Akliouche. With Monaco leading 2-1, Nice struggled to recover, particularly after receiving a red card for Dante in the 90th minute for a last-man foul.

Despite pressure in the closing minutes from Nice, which included attempts from Tom Louchet and Terem Moffi, Monaco’s defense held firm. Nice had 57.4% possession and a total of 17 shots, but only managed to convert once, showcasing Monaco’s solid defensive tactics.

In post-match comments, Monaco’s coach Adolf Hutter praised his squad’s effort, stating, “Our boys showed heart and determination to overturn the score in the second half. We need to build on this momentum as we push for Champions League qualification.”

In contrast, Nice coach Franck Haise expressed disappointment, highlighting his team’s failure to capitalize on early opportunities. “We started strong, but a lack of composure led to our downfall,” he lamented.

This match sets the stage further in the Ligue 1 standings, with Monaco claiming a vital three points as they look to secure a top-three finish and a coveted spot in next year’s Champions League.
