Uromi, Edo State, Nigeria – The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, don condemn the brutal mob attack wey result in the killing of seven travellers wey dem suspect say na kidnappers. The tragic incident happen on March 28, 2025, when mob of youths intercept some hunters wey dey travel for Sallah, resulting in their deaths.
According to reports from PUNCH Online, the victims, who were identified as hunters, were traveling in a commercial truck when vigilante groups stop dem. When dem find dane guns wey dem carry for the vehicle, the mob conclude say dem be kidnappers, leading to them being burnt alive.
In a viral video wey surface online, the graphic scene show the victims surrounded by angry youths before dem set them ablaze. Dis incident don cause serious outcry across the nation, with many Nigerians dey blame both federal and state governments for no fit control jungle justice.
Governor Okpebholo, wey speak through the Chief Security Officer, SP Solomon Osaghale, don make am clear say this act na barbaric and condemnable. He promise say those wey commit this atrocity go face the law. ‘Nobody has the right to take another man’s life,’ he tell journalists as he dey address the atrocity wey happen.
The governor don send security agencies to the area wey dey coordinate investigation, and he emphasize say over four suspects don already arrest for the incident. ‘I assure you, those involved in this unprovoked attack will not go scot-free,’ Osaghale reaffirmed during the briefing.
He add say di investigation show say di victims get caught after dem dey stopped by local security outfit who check their vehicle. ‘This incident dey worry us as e don spoil di peaceful coexistence wey dey between di Hausa Community and di indigenes of Uromi,’ he explain.
Malam Aliyu Haruna, di leader of di Hausa Community for Uromi, praise di governor for sending security personnel to di area to restore calm. ‘This na di first time we dey see such violence for dis community, and e surprise us because we don live together peacefully for over seventy years,’ he talk.
As di investigations dey continue, di governor urge di people of Uromi, particularly di Hausa people, to remain calm and continue dem daily activities. He assure dem say adequate security dey in place to prevent further reoccurrence of such violence.
