Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria — Dem don waka carry strike matter come again! For Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), dem lecturers wey belong to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) don declare indefinite strike over unpaid salaries. Na on September 11, 2025, dem take write letter wey carry serious gist, signed by ASUU-FUOYE Chairperson, Comrade O. A. Fagbuagun, and Financial Secretary, Comrade Ngwu Benitho.
Dem talk say this strike na total, indefinite, and comprehensive wahala. E go last until dem fit clear all their unpaid salaries. (This one no be ’small-small’ matter o, e dey serious!).
The letter wey dem send go the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, no carry any soft approach; dem just dey bold like lion wey dey guard im territory. Na dem ASUU national directive dey cause this ogbonge strike — if salary no enter by 3rd day of every month, gbege go follow! (I fit hear some lecturers dey plan how to flex their time while dem dey wait for salary to show).
ASUU don plan am well, dem say this strike no be small joke; e get national backing. They won’t back down until the university management do wetin dem suppose do — pay dem salary as e dey due! E no b like say they dey play-fight for market, this be serious business.
The letter also talk about plenty other schools wey don experience similar wahala. E seem like e go turn to small competition of who go strike pass! For instance, the University of Jos don close shop when June salaries no show by July 3. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University for Bauchi, too, don delay service because salary no gree show. Dem dey vex say dem dey collect salary late, even into next month. (Make we no forget say dem lecturers still be oga at the top for for education!).
Meanwhile, Minister of Education, Olatunji Alausa, don talk say Federal Government dey work hard to make sure say our pikin remain for school, even as dem dey dismiss concerns about this kind strike matter. Wetin be the koko? Na remain to dey watch as this drama dey unfold, even as we dey sip palm wine and gist about this matter! (E go good make person follow the story as e dey happen).
So as e be now, no be the first time we go hear this strike saga, but we go keep our ears open and eyes sharp to see how e go turn out. If dem fit resolve am quick, make the education no dey suffer, abeg!
