Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria – Na serious wahala dey brew for Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) as lecturers don vex serious over unpaid salaries. Dem don join body under Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and dem don begin strike wey don paralyze everything for campus since last month. No be small matter oh!
Dr. Boluwaji Oshodi, wey be chairman for ASUU AAUA chapter, don yarn say dem don suffer plenty over di matter. He say, “We don dey patient for long, but this time, we no go take am again. Our people don dey pushed to di wall.” (I mean, who fit do exam wey fit pay score when belly dey empty?).
Di lecturers dey complain say dem dey do work, yet dem no get salary to carry chop. Dem even dey run exams on empty stomach—na wah! Oshodi say dem don try meet Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa but all di attempts fall for ground like bad igbo. No be wetin dem expect from oga at di top.
As di drama dey unfold, Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, don come out to talk say di government never abandon di university. He say dem dey work hard to address di issue. Na so him drop di bombshell, say dem dey release money monthly for state universities, including AAUA, without delay. (But wetin di money dey do if salary no dey? E be like say dem dey use for ‘takeaway’).
However, as di lecturers dey flex dem muscles, di fate of di new academic session and di convocation ceremony dey hang for neck. If di salary wahala no fit resolve, na so dem go scatter di whole arrangement. Imagine convocation wey no go fit hold because lecturers don shut di road!
So, di pressure don dey increase, and many eyes dey focus on di state government to see wetin dem go do next. Will dem finally pay di lecturers? Or we go see dem dey strike till December? Only time go tell, but for now, make we grab popcorn, coz dis drama too sweet!
