Kano, Nigeria – On April 15, 2025, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State received the Torch of Unity from the National Sports Commission, in preparation for the 2025 National Sports Festival. The festival is set to hold in Ogun State from May 16 to May 30, 2025.
During the ceremony, which was led by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Faruk-Ibrahim, Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of sports in fostering peace and unity among the citizens. He stated, “Sports play a significant role in promoting unity, discipline, love, and friendship among citizens.”
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed that the Kano State government is ready to partake fully in the upcoming sports festival, highlighting the state’s commitment to showcasing its athletes, particularly in events where they hold a comparative advantage.
The Team Lead of the National Sports Commission, Mrs. Ikana Mbora, described the festival as an exciting experience and expressed her dedication to ensuring its success. “We are committed to making this festival a remarkable event for all participants,” she said.
The ceremony was attended by various state officials, including members of the State Sports Council. The upcoming ‘Gateway Games’ will feature numerous sports such as football, volleyball, and basketball, attracting thousands of athletes from various states to showcase their talents.
