JAMB Don Delist 5 CBT Centres, Arrest 27 For Impersonation!

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Friday, April 25, announced the delisting of five Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres due to technical failures during the ongoing 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

According to a statement from JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the affected centres located in Kano, Sokoto, and Imo states did not meet the board’s operational standards. The centres include Adventure Associate in Kano, Saadatu Rimi College of Education in Kano, and two centres operated by Penta M & F Technical Services in Sokoto, along with Soronara Ventured Nigeria Limited in Imo State.

The examination body urged candidates who were scheduled to take their exams at these delisted centres to reprint their examination notification slips to find their new venues and dates. “We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but we will not tolerate excuses by candidates who fail to reprint their slip to get their new schedules,” the board stated.

As of Friday, over 900,000 candidates have completed the UTME out of the 2,083,600 registered for this year’s exams. JAMB praised the 883 centres that performed well but warned that any centre neglecting ethical or technical standards would face blacklisting.

In addition, JAMB has intensified its fight against examination malpractice, revealing the arrest of 27 individuals for attempting to impersonate candidates. These suspects have been handed over to the Nigerian police for prosecution.

“With the increasing efforts in biometric verification and surveillance, we are committed to maintaining the integrity of the UTME process,” JAMB reiterated.

The board also addressed a situation involving candidates wearing hijabs at Caleb University in Lagos. Following some unauthorized restrictions imposed by a security officer, JAMB swiftly intervened. The Vice-Chancellor of the university condemned the actions and ensured that all candidates were treated fairly.

“We extend our sincere apologies to the affected candidates and commend the leadership from both the centre and the university for their prompt intervention, which ensured that none suffered undue disadvantage,” JAMB’s statement concluded.

The UTME is critical for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities, with JAMB accrediting numerous CBT centres across the country. Nevertheless, the examination process has faced challenges in the past, leading to renewed control measures this year, including rigorous monitoring and penalties for any infractions.
