Yahya Sinwar, wey be the mastermind of the deadliest attack in Israeli history, die on Thursday, and Israeli military announce am. His death raise hope say maybe the war go end soon, especially for the families of the Israeli hostages and the people of Gaza who dey suffer from humanitarian crisis.
But Khalil al-Hayya, one Hamas official wey dey Qatar, talk in video statement on Friday, say Hamas no go release any hostage “unless the aggression against our people in Gaza stop”. Israeli forces still dey bomb Gaza with air strikes, and on Friday, rescuers find the bodies of three Palestinian children from the rubble of their home in the north of Gaza.
Sinwar be Israel’s most wanted man, and his death be big blow to Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu call Sinwar’s killing “important landmark in the decline of the evil rule of Hamas”. He say though it no mean the end of the war, it be “the beginning of the end”.
US President Joe Biden talk say Sinwar’s death be “opportunity to seek a path to peace, a better future in Gaza without Hamas”. But Israeli military chief Herzi Halevi vow say dem go continue fight “until we capture all the terrorists involved in the October 7 massacre and bring all the hostages home”.
Hamas’s armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, also talk say “our fight will not stop until Palestine is liberated”. The war in Gaza start after Hamas stage the deadliest-ever attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,206 people, mostly civilians. Militants take 251 hostages back to Gaza, and 97 still dey there, including 34 wey Israeli officials say don die.
Israel’s campaign to crush Hamas and bring back the hostages don kill 42,500 people in Gaza, mostly civilians. UNICEF spokesman James Elder talk say over 14,100 children don die in Gaza, and say “Gaza be the real-world embodiment of hell on Earth for its one million children”.
