Grizzlies and Mavericks Battle for Last Playoff Spot for 2025 Season

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — Dallas Mavericks go face-to-face with Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night in a do-or-die clash for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. The game tips off at 9:30 p.m. ET at FedExForum, with the winner moving on to face NBA’s top seed, Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Mavericks earned their place in this critical matchup after defeating Sacramento Kings 123-106 earlier this week. Anthony Davis, who joined Dallas via a midseason trade, led the charge with 27 points and nine rebounds. Klay Thompson also contributed significantly by scoring 23 points and grabbing five rebounds.

On the other side, the Grizzlies faced a tough loss to the Golden State Warriors, ending their chance for an automatic playoff spot as a No. 7 seed. Desmond Bane scored 30 points in that game, while Ja Morant, who battled an ankle injury, added 22 points.

“We know this is a huge game for both teams. The intensity will be high, and we must step up,” said Mavericks forward Anthony Davis.

Memphis had a strong season, finishing with a 48-34 record. They won the season series against Dallas 3-1, but with everything at stake, past games don’t matter anymore.

“This game feels like a playoff game already,” said Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane. “We’re ready to fight for our spot.”

Both teams are aware of the implications; a loss means elimination from the playoffs. Prior to Friday’s game, the Mavericks and Grizzlies have had to regroup quickly after contrasting paths reaching this point.

Mavericks coach said, “We’ve had our share of struggles, but we believe we can turn it around. It’s all about today.”

The last Play-In game promises to be an electrifying contest, reminiscent of a Game 7 atmosphere. “Every possession counts and we need to play our best basketball,” added Thompson.

Fans can catch the action live on ESPN, with streams available through various platforms.
