Buffalo, NY — Western New Yorkers fit soon dey face serious increase for their electricity and gas rates over di next three years. Dis one na according to joint proposal wey National Grid and im partners don file wey go affect upstate customers.
The proposal wey need approval from di New York Department of Public Service, go bring estimated monthly bill increase of $14.32 for di first year, $6.44 for di second year, and $4.34 for year three for residential electricity customers wey dey use average of 625 kilowatt hours per month.
For di natural gas customers wey dey use average of 78 therms per month, dem go see estimated monthly bill increase of $7.66 in di first year, $8.08 in di second year, and $9.18 for di third year.
Supporters of di proposal dey point to di planned $1.4 billion investment for di electricity delivery system and $351 million for di natural gas system in di first year alone. Dem claim say di plan go improve di system’s ability to resist severe weather and e go create 480 new jobs.
Phil DeCicco, wey be National Grid’s New York General Counsel, talk say di proposal go undergo thorough review process. He add say di company dey look forward to “receiving additional feedback from our stakeholders during di upcoming public review process.”
National Grid’s electric delivery service dey available for all of Orleans and Genesee Counties. Majority of Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties also dey receive di service. However, National Grid no dey provide natural gas delivery service for any county for Western New York.
