Chappell Roan Make History with New Country Hit, ‘The Giver’

Los Angeles, CA – Chappell Roan don strike wey go make history for music charts with her new single, ‘The Giver’. Released on March 13, 2025, the song don open at No. 1 for Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart, making her the third woman for ever to debut her first entry there at No. 1.

Roan join two other notable artists, Bebe Rexha and Beyoncé, as women wey don achieve this milestone. Bebe Rexha na the first with her song ‘Meant to Be’ wey she drop with Florida Georgia Line. Beyoncé follow suit last year when her single after switching to country music also land at number one.

In a post before the single release, Roan talk say she get plenty reservations about dropping a country song after her pop success. She write, “It is def a bold and scary move to release a full ass country song after only releasing one song last year and it having such a success in the pop genre.”

‘The Giver’ dey unique as na the first openly queer country song wey don top the Hot Country Songs chart for the U.S. The lyrics highlight how Roan fit fulfill women’s sexual desires better than men. She sing, ‘And other boys may need a map / But I can close my eye / And have you wrapped around my fingers like that.’

In the catchy chorus, she emphasize, ‘Cause you ain’t got to tell me / It’s just in my nature / So take it like a taker / ‘Cause, baby, I’m a giver.’

Chappell Roan don come a long way since she burst onto the scene as the breakout star of 2024, winning Best New Artist at the 67th annual Grammy Awards in 2025, where she was up against talented acts.

Roan dedicate her Grammy win to all artists, calling on labels to treat artists better by providing them with livable wages and healthcare. “The industry dey profit millions off artists, wey no dey help upcoming talents. We need to change this,” she said.

The singer continue to build on her success with impressive pop ballads like ‘Good Luck’, ‘Babe!’, and ‘Red Wine Supernova’, but ‘The Giver’ marks her bold transition into the country genre. Despite her earlier jitters, her history-making accomplishment now don solidify her as one of the leading voices in modern music.
