CBN Don Change Cash Rule, Make Withdrawals Easy But Still Dey Caution Us

ABUJA, Nigeria – Gather round, my people! The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) don drop new rules wey make withdrawing cash no be wahala again. Starting from January 1, 2026, individuals fit chop up to 500,000 naira weekly. Corporates sef go fit collect 5 million naira. Na serious business wey dem dey tackle o!

Why dis change? Na because the CBN wan reduce the wahala of managing cash and stop money-laundering runs wey don dey cause gbege for our economy. (You know say money no dey carry any house when e want run for night, right?) Dis move come after dem notice say Nigeria dey under serious monitoring from Financial Action Task Force (FATF) because of illicit flows of money.

Before this time, if you wan withdraw more than your usual, you fit be for special authorisation drama, but now dem don remove all those limbo. Na so we go fit manage cash better, and everybody dey happy. But wait, no get mouth for this free cash matter, oo! If you manage to collect more than the limits, una go pay small fees – 3% for individuals and 5% for corporate accounts. (Na wetin dem dey call “make we chop money small, small.”)

Still, you no go fit carry more than 100,000 naira from ATM daily. Just make sure say you dey calculative as these withdrawals go add to your weekly limit. (Psst, we go dey watch you sharp sharp!)

CBN think say dis new policy go ginger people make dem move away from cash and embrace electronic transactions. Gbam!
