Anthony Davis Don Come Back, Mavs Fans Dey Joy!

NEW YORK (AP) — Anthony Davis burst back onto the court on March 24, making his return for the Dallas Mavericks after missing six weeks due to a groin injury incurred during his debut game.

Davis, a 10-time All-Star, wasted no time making an impact as he scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds against the Brooklyn Nets. His performance marked a triumphant return to the floor post-injury.

“I feel good,” Davis said after the game. “I feel like I had a great rhythm, to be honest. I wasn’t trying to force anything.” He shot 6-for-9 from the field and added three assists, a steal, and a block in just over 26 minutes of play.

Before his return, the Mavericks faced a tough road, having recorded a 6-12 win-loss record in Davis’s absence. The team, which recently traded Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, has felt the impact of other injuries. They now struggle for a playoff position, ranking outside the Western Conference playoff race.

Coach Jason Kidd expressed confidence in Davis’s dedication to returning, stating, “I stressed to Mavericks management that once I’m 100%, I’m going to play.” His resolve shows his responsibility to his teammates, especially with Kyrie Irving now sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Davis was initially doubtful for Monday’s game but showed enough progress to be listed as questionable, even participating in practices with the G League Texas Legends to ramp up for his comeback.

Despite some in the Mavericks organization suggesting shutting him down for the season due to their standings, Davis was eager to return. “Working to get back with 12 games left shows how much he cares about winning,” Kidd added.

In his first game back, Davis quickly established his scoring ability, showcasing a two-handed dunk early in the matchup, reaffirming his intent to lead the Mavericks as they chase a play-in spot.

The Mavericks are currently in a tight race with the Phoenix Suns for the final play-in tournament position in the West. Following their victory over the Nets, Dallas now faces a series of road games, including matchups against the New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, and Chicago Bulls.

Davis ended his last game before the injury with an impressive stat line of 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 assists—his performance proving he can still contribute significantly amidst team uncertainty.
