SAGAMU, Ogun State — On April 4, 2025, operatives from the South-West Security Network, known as Amotekun Corps, alongside the Ogun State Police Command, executed a significant clearance operation at the troubled Sagamu Interchange. This operation came in response to a rising wave of attacks by hoodlums that have raised public concern.
The police action was spurred by a viral social media post detailing horrific incidents, including the brutal attack of a pastor on March 22, who later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital. This alarming narrative highlighted the Sagamu Interchange as one of the most dangerous areas in Ogun State.
In a statement, a family member of the victim shared, “A pastor who went for a vigil was attacked under the bridge. He was left bleeding for hours before assistance arrived, and he eventually passed away due to the injuries.”
Following these incidents, the Ogun State Police Command swiftly deployed personnel to assess the area and disrupted criminal activities. According to Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, “We have conducted a two-hour evaluation that revealed illegal activities and a hideout used by criminals nearby.”
The assessment led to the discovery of a suspected criminal base and the arrest of three individuals. Odutola further mentioned that enhanced security measures were established around the four intersections of the Sagamu Interchange to protect residents and travelers.
“We positioned our Quick Response Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons at strategic points. Our goal is to ensure public safety and eliminate any threats,” she added.
Local transport unions have also joined efforts, redirecting traffic to safer routes. They are cooperating with the security forces to mitigate any risks to travelers.
Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor, affirmed that the vigilance would be ongoing. “Amotekun is deployed for prolonged monitoring, and those apprehended will face prosecution if found guilty,” he stated.
Akinmade reassured the public, emphasizing, “We are determined to keep this area secure. Any form of harassment will not be tolerated, and the perpetrators will be brought to justice.”
As the security operations continue, residents hope for a safer community where fear of hoodlum attacks no longer lingers around the Sagamu Interchange.
