Rahoton da UNESCO ta fitar a ranar 12 ga Disamba, 2024, ya nuna cewa aƙalla jaridu 68 da ma’aikatan kafofin watsa labarai suka rasu a shekarar 2024 yayin gudanar da ayyukansu ko saboda aikinsu. Rahoton ya bayyana cewa fiye da 60% na waɗannan kisan gilla sun faru a yankunan rikici.
Daga cikin kisan jaridu 42 da aka yi a ƙasashen rikici, 18 sun faru a Falasdinu, 4 a Ukraine da Kolombiya, 3 kowanne a Iraki, Lubnan, Myanmar, da Sudan, sannan 1 kowanne a Siriya, Chad, Somalia, da Jamhuriyar Demokradiyyar Kongo. Wannan ya ci gaba da al’adar damuwa da aka kafa a shekarar 2023 – tare da hadin gwiwa, fiye da yawan jaridu da suka mutu a rikici a shekaru biyu da suka gabata fiye da kowace shekara tun 2016/2017.
Jimlar adadin kisan jaridu da ma’aikatan kafofin watsa labarai (68) ya ragu idan aka kwatanta da shekarar 2023 (74) da 2022 (88), ko da yake wasu kisan ana tabbatar da su har yanzu ta hanyar UNESCO, a kan hanyar aikin ta. Ragowar adadin ya kasance saboda raguwar adadin jaridu da aka kashe a wajen ƙasashen rikici, inda aka samu kisan 26. Wannan shi ne mafi ƙarancin jimlar a cikin shekaru 16.
UNESCO ta ce cewa ana samun ci gaba a wasu ƙasashen da ba na rikici ba a yaki da hare-haren da ake kaiwa jaridu saboda rahotonsu a zaman lafiya, wanda ya kai kololuwa a shekarar 2022 da kisan 60. Haka yake musamman a Latin Amurka da Caribbean, inda aka samu kisan 12 a shekarar 2024 idan aka kwatanta da 18 a shekarar 2023 da 43 a shekarar 2022.
