Na recent event wey happen for Abuja, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, and Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) no agree on di target to increase oil production by 1 million barrels per day.
Lokpobiri say di target wey NUPRC set no be ambitious enough. He claim say Nigerians no fit wait another two years to add just 1 million barrels per day. Instead, he want industry players to work towards increasing production to 4 million barrels per day.
NUPRC Chief, Gbenga Komolafe, announce di plan to explore additional 1 million barrels of oil on top of di current production. He say dis project go help position di oil and gas sector for vibrancy and value optimisation. However, Lokpobiri dispute dis target, saying it too low and Nigerians need more.
Nigeria dey struggle to meet di 1.5 million barrels per day quota set by di Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). So, di latest target show say di country dey on track to achieve some growth, but Lokpobiri believe dem need to aim higher.
Komolafe call on all stakeholders to support NUPRC’s effort to restore sanity in di industry and ensure production sustainability, energy security, and economic resilience.
