Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of using the current hardship in the country to play politics at the expense of the masses. Atiku made this statement in response to Wike’s recent remarks that Atiku has lost relevance in politics and that Nigerians have rejected him following his defeats in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections.
Atiku’s reaction came through a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, titled ‘Wike and His T-Pain Collaborators Playing Politics with the Suffering of Nigerians.’ In the statement, Atiku described Wike’s comments as “theatrical outbursts” and suggested that Wike is more concerned with his personal grievances than with addressing the real challenges faced by Nigerians.
Atiku emphasized that he remains focused on the genuine issues affecting Nigerians and will not be distracted by Wike’s antics. He criticized Wike for prioritizing domestic affairs in Rivers State over his ministerial responsibilities and for indulging in self-serving rhetoric rather than addressing the nation’s real challenges.
Atiku also pointed out that Wike’s comments reveal a deeper truth about his priorities, which lie more with himself than with the welfare of the people. He reiterated his commitment to the welfare and progress of Nigerians, contrasting it with Wike’s self-absorption and preoccupation with personal interests.
