Kebbi State Government don announce say dem dey close College of Health Technology, Jega, because of student demonstration wey happen for the college.
Commissioner for Higher Education for the state, Isah Abubakar-Tunga, talk am for press release wey him sign for Birnin Kebbi on Thursday. Him say if dem no stop the demonstration, e fit escalate to something wey dem no fit control.
Abubakar-Tunga advise all students to leave the college immediately. Him talk say the students target na the provost, dem burn him house and vandalise him car completely.
“When we visit the college, we only meet the Registrar, but the Divisional Police Office for the area don take the provost to police station to save him life. If not for the intervention of the DPO, the students would have lynched him,” him explain.
The students complain say the courses for the college only get state recognition, not federal recognition, meaning after graduation, dem go get ordinary diplomas, not national diploma certificates. Other issues include lack of toilets, absence of potable water, poor sanitary environment, and bad leadership.
The commissioner say the college go remain closed for three weeks to one month. Him assure say every student wey dey resume must come with their parent and write undertaking.
