Professor Yip explain say low-skilled workers be the ones wey dey suffer most after the pandemic. ‘Poor people dey face economic restructuring problem,’ he say. ‘Our latest studies show say poverty don mushroom everywhere in Hong Kong, unlike before when poor people usually dey in some old districts.’

In another part of the world, UK charity Kinship also talk about how children wey be raised by friends or relatives dey suffer from poverty. Kinship say kinship caregivers, especially grandparents, dey twice as likely to depend on food banks and four times more likely to fall behind on payments compared to other adults. The charity warn say if no help come, about 18,000 children fit enter foster care system because caregivers no fit continue.

Lucy Peake, the chief executive of Kinship, say children no suppose suffer because their caregivers no get enough support. ‘Children dey suffer because kinship caregivers no get the resources dem need,’ she say. ‘We need government to address this issue and give kinship caregivers the support dem deserve.’

Janet Daby, the Minister for Children and Families, promise say dem go drive reform in children’s social care system to prioritize support for kinship families. ‘We know kinship caregivers no get enough recognition and support, and we go change dat,’ she say.
