Africa bin get 10 representatives for di tournament: Algeria, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.
Na 9 out of dese 10 teams, wey be 90%, qualify from di Group Stage to di Round of 32. Dis na di highest percentage for history of di competition.
Di only continent wey get better record na UEFA, wey get 40% of dia teams qualify.
Egypt and Morocco reach di Round of 16, and Morocco even make am to di Quarter Finals for second time consecutively.
Oda teams like Cabo Verde, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Ghana and Tunisia also impress.
Dr Motsepe say: “Significant progress and successes were achieved by di African National Teams at di FIFA World Cup 2026 and I am very proud of dia performances. Di 9 African National Teams wey qualify from di Group Stage to di Round of 32 make history, as dis na 90% of di African National Teams wey participate, and na di highest percentage to qualify to date.”
He remind say for 2022, na 40% qualify, for 2018 none, and for 2014 na 40%.
Dr Motsepe talk say dem don identify areas for improvement and im confident say di coaches, technical teams and players go implement necessary changes.
CAF go host a conference wey go invite National Team coaches, technical teams, former African National team players and oda football experts and stakeholders to evaluate di performances, with di aim to make recommendations for even more success for African teams for World Cup 2030.
He add say: “We go continue to train and invest for our boys and girls football players, amateur football, professional Football Leagues and our National Teams for each of di 54 African countries to make African Football globally competitive and amongst di best for di world.”
CAF dey increase funding for training of coaches at all levels, and go conduct numerous coaching training courses for each of di 6 CAF Regions or Zones for di African Continent.
CAF dey also focus on increasing di quality and competitiveness of di CAF African Schools Football Championship as important platform for development of African Youth Football.
Dr Motsepe say dem go strengthen and expand partnerships between Member Associations and Governments and private sector to develop, support, sponsor and grow football for each of di 54 African countries.
He stress say every National Team and Football Club must play dia matches for dia country and in front of dia local supporters and fans, and each Member Association country must get stadium wey meet CAF and FIFA level.
Meanwhile, for di tournament, some players stand out. Ismaila Sarr from Senegal finish as Africa’s leading scorer with four goals. Yoane Wissa from DR Congo score three goals, including decisive brace wey help Leopards reach knockout stage for first time.
