The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) don direct all public primary and secondary school teachers for Oyo State to withdraw dem services from schools starting Monday, June 1, 2026, until further notice. According to the directive wey the national leadership of the union issue, the strike na protest against the continued captivity of abducted teachers and pupils, wey dem rescue and safe release, according to the Union, remain uncertain.
The NUT argue say the prolonged detention of the victims don create fear and anxiety among teachers, discourage parents from sending dem pikin to school, and heighten tension across communities for the state. The development follow President Bola Tinubu directive on Sunday for the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to secure the release of the abducted teachers and students.
However, for a release wey the NUT chairman for Oyo state wing, Comrade Hassan Fatai sign, the NUT say the industrial action na aimed at drawing the attention of government authorities to the urgent need to intensify efforts toward securing the safe release of the abductees without further delay. Residents believe the attackers escape through routes wey link to the old Oyo National Park after dem carry out the operation.
